We are a collective of professionals with a passion for the waterways of Aotearoa.

Let’s Be Clear is a charitable trust that provides real time data and the educational tools to allow everyone to understand why their waterway is as it is.

We work with the community, regulators and science professionals to improve waterway health through turning the data into knowledge and the knowledge into cost effective improvement in river health.

Why It Matters

We have concerns about the water quality of rivers and lakes in New Zealand. Agricultural runoff, urban development, and other human activities have been identified as contributing factors to water pollution and degradation. The decline in water quality has negative impacts on aquatic ecosystems and poses challenges for drinking water supplies.

The true picture of water quality, the causes and potential mitigations are largely hidden in scientific papers or lobby group publications.  We want to change this and bring the public in on the conversation - with facts.

Our system uses real time data monitoring and analysis rather than the current grab sample testing that is popular with these organisations.

Efforts are being made to address these issues through various initiatives, our work will add clarity to the current state and provide the backup to those working to implement policies and practices aimed at improving water quality and sustainability.

Our Work

Our team of professionals already provides monitoring and analysis to several councils across NZ and our program now aims to use this same expertise to provide information in full view and promote change.

Transparency

This website provides a comprehensive and accessible resource for members of the public to learn about the quality of water in NZ waterways. It includes information on water quality monitoring, the main pollutants affecting waterways, and the potential health impacts of exposure to contaminated water. Additionally, the website provides guidance on how individuals and communities can take action to protect the river, improve quality, and see these changes in real time. It is designed with a user-friendly interface to be accessible to people of all ages and levels of education. Our aim is to provide updates in real time with the latest information and data.  To achieve this we need your help.

Supporters

We have engaged with many people across Aotearoa who are passionate about water.  Some of these are actively involved in our work, while others are supporting from the sidelines.  Each recognises the need for a public forum that allows transparency and the transfer of information and data.  Please join us.
